Fantastic! Most powerful Japanese dictionary for iOS

This is the perfect tool for students and professionals, and is a tremendous value compared with the expensive name-brand publishing houses. First and foremost, the number of entries and examples puts this at the top of the list for coverage. Secondly, links to kanji, multiple lookup methods, the number of useful features makes this the most powerful Japanese dictionary available for iOS. This is a must-have app.

Awsome

Like this app so much (^з^)-☆

Very good, but could use a few improvements

The first thing that needs improvement is the ability to add and save complete sentence examples (English and Japanese) to folders. As of now, only single words can be saved. Secondly, the need for formal speech conjugation lists. As of now, conjugations only cover informal speech. And lastly, after choosing the radical when searching a kanji, there is a long, thin bar at top showing possible kanji matches. This is a major pain scrolling through to the right, trying to find the correct match. Why not have a full-screen list, categorized by number of strokes (like the Renzo Japanese app has)? This would save a LOT of time and effort while searching. -- Update -- After using Midori for quite some time, I have to say that it isnt practical for everyday use. Seems 95% of the included Japanese definitions arent even used in everyday spoken language. They are uncommon and hard words that no one besides university professors, newspapers, or JLPT students might use. And most of the public domain example sentences are a joke. They were obviously written by egghead scholars and have little everyday practical use. Plus, many Japanese definitions of common English words are completely missing. A note to the creator of Midori- How about releasing a Japanese/English dictionary app that only has definitions for practical usage in everyday SPOKEN situations. Dump all the other useless definitions. And stop depending on public domain sentence examples. Write your own. They are mostly terrible and completely useless. Its better to have 30,000 USEFUL entries than bragging about having 860,000 useless ones. Back to my heavy but useful Kodansha paper dictionary. Midori NOT recommended. Review reduced to one star.

Great for studying

The example sentences are very good.

:D

this is the best Japanese-English/English-Japanese dictionary on the App Store. and very affordable too! I recommend this to any language learner!! also they keep up with the updates, so the interface stays nice :) このアプリ本当に上等!ダウンロードしてくださいw

The Best Japanese dictionary

Everything about this app is great. Simple, intuitive interface. Almost instant searches. The handwriting for Kanji is the best Ive used from the App Store. It has a huge variety of settings for customisation. The app gets regular feature updates, go to the developers website to ask for more. Ive even had a features I asked for implemented.

Simply the best!

Since I started to study Japanese language with iPhone and iPad I made used of several dictionaries and study tools. But when I came across with this one I forgot about all other apps. It has a lot of useful features (i.e., sample sentences can talk); it is often updated and enhanced. O susume!!

Very happy!

Midori has never failed me. I wish this app existed for more languages!

One of the best

This app keeps getting better and better. They actively listen to comments and suggestions and continuously update it to add useful new features. This is a must have for any student of Japanese. Thank you so much.

Best Japanese Dictionary

Very useful can recommend !!!

Kanji recognition not useful

Kanji recognition is not useful for beginners: If you cant write them, Midori wont find them. Even a precise copy from the image of a unknown Kanji will not work (stroke order, etc)

Absolutely Brilliant

5/5

Almost perfect but radicals analysis

Great tool to work regularly and progress ! I love it and use it everyday. But to be really perfect and complete, the components/radicals analysis could be improved a bit. From a kanji details page we can see the components and click them to see their details. Once on a components details we can see compounds using this component but only words. From here its not possible to simply see the kanjis using that component. Example: looking at 持: the components show てへん (手) and てら(寺). If I click on てへん component I would be happy to see all kanjis those contain てへん(手-radical) like 払 or 指. Its really missing I think as radicals details are helpful to remember complex kanjis. Im just a bit frustrated by that because I have to search in another dictionary then. Hoping to get it soon and that will become the definitive tool ! :-)

iCloud sync

Next update please, I need sync with my another idevices.

Colour

This is a great application it has helped me improve my Japanese a lot since I started studying. I thank you guys for the update to it but I would really appreciate it if I could get the red colour back. Or let the user be able to choose the theme colour because I really dont like the current black colour. Once I get that I will proudly give you 5 stars.

Brilliant

The best Japanese dictionary app Ive used.

Pretty good

Nice. Especially the feature allowing the sharing of lists/bookmarks.

Best japanese dictionary on a mobile device!

One of the reasons I switched to apple when I came to Japan! Thank you for creating this app and updating it!

Midori is worth buying for!

Midori app is very useful for me! This app contains so many features. I dont regret I bought this app because this app is worth its price! Im studying Japanese through Kumon Japanese Language Program and Midori app is my number one choice in accompanying my Japanese studying. Midori app is the best!

Lack of features.

This application can be further become good, if Midori technical team can provide a way to search ( Search feature inside list) any kanji inside of your bookmark. Or they can provide a way to edit the bookmark on your PC and further import the edited bookmark in Midori application. Though kanji flash are arrangement is available in the application, but this is not a useful feature of your bookmark list is big. Midori team should provide a more effective method to arrange the kanji flash card inside the bookmark list through PC.
